James "Eric" HAMMILL — Summerside

Age 91 years of Andrews Lodge, Summerside and formerly of Newton, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Eric was born on August 25, 1932, to Redverse and Eva (Dawson) Hammill of Freetown. Predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Helen (McIssac). He is survived by his sons, Robert (Natalie) and Preston; "Grampy" to grandchildren, Kailey (Nathan), Cameron, Tayler; and great-grandchildren, Alexa, Owen, Daxxen, Huxtley and Cooper; as well as special family members, Marilyn Warren, Mary, Angela and Victoria Arsenault. Eric was predeceased by his siblings, Gorden, Fr. Preston, Freda, Elaine, Elmer and Edwin. Eric was very involved in Agriculture, as a 4-H leader for 26 years. He was secretary manager of Federation of Agriculture, manager of Agriculture Employment Services, inducted into the Agriculture Hall of Fame as well as Minister of Agriculture. He was a family-oriented man who lived and farmed in Newton where he enjoyed visits with his neighbors and working to help each other out. Visitation will take place in Malachy’s church, Kinkora on Sunday, October 1 from 3-7 p.m. Funeral Mass to be held on Monday, October 2 in St. Malachy’s church, Kinkora at 10:30 a.m. Donations in Eric’s memory can be made to the Diabetes Society or St. Malachy’s Cemetery Fund.
