The death occurred peacefully at the palliative care center at Western Hospital, with his family at his side of Roy Joseph McKenna of St. Louis, PEI on Monday, October 16, 2023. The son of the late Eddie and Rose (nee Aylward) McKenna, Roy was born on November 20, 1936 and had a long and full life. A retired member of the Canadian Armed Forces, Roy spent three years as a member of the Black Watch, he was a butcher, a potato inspector and warehouse foreman, a carpenter and a loving husband and father of five children. Upon his retirement Roy was very active within the church community and a volunteer member of the West Prince Funeral Co-Op. Roy was predeceased by his parents, Eddie and Rose, siblings, Rosetta, Harold, Earl, Gerald, Edward, Claude, Roberta, Lloyd, Willard, and a son Donald. Roy is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Helen (nee Doucette); children, Terry (Paulette MacDougall), Nora (Angela Doucette), James and Johnny (Kim Andrews); grandchildren, Seth Getson-McKenna and Nakea Anne Barrie; and one great grandchild, Sora Barrie; and siblings Grace, Barbara and Leonard. Resting at the West Prince Funeral home in Palmer Road, visiting hours Wednesday October 18th, 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. and 7 P.M. to 9 P.M. The funeral will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church, Palmer Road at 11 A.M. Thursday, October 19th.
