Peacefully at Whisperwood Villa, Charlottetown, PE on November 1, 2023, at the age of 96, Carl W. Hamm, formerly of Bunbury, PE passed away to be reunited with the love of his life, Irene, his devoted wife of 73 years who predeceased him in March. Carl is lovingly remembered by his five children, Bonnie (Ron) Bush, Shelley (Ronnie) Diamond, Merle (Gordon) MacBeath, Larry (Jackie) Hamm, and Marnie (Andrew) Karczynski; grandchildren, Tanya, Derek, Jason, Christopher, Colin, Tyler, Ashley, Paige, and Kyle; and 16 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his father Allan Hamm, mother Golda (Riggs), stepmother Agnes (Johnston Mansfield), sisters Marian Mountford, Cathryn Henderson, and infant sister Marjory. Carl was a loving husband, proud and dedicated father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was loved by his family. Born in Windsor, ON, he was then raised from the age of five on the family farm in Bunbury, and was very proud of his family heritage. At 18 he returned to Ontario, where he met and married his soulmate, Irene. After working at Procter & Gamble for 25 years, he brought the family back to PEI where he built the family home and co-founded a small construction company. He was very active in the churches he attended and volunteered building homes for Habitat for Humanity. Throughout his long life, he always had a keen interest in current events and politics and never shied away from voicing his opinion or fighting for what he believed was right. He loved tinkering, building things and inventing gadgets. He had a wonderfully creative mind and could draw his ideas and then make them come to life. Carl was trained as a pipefitter, steamfitter, welder, and carpenter, and could also turn his hand to most plumbing and electrical jobs. He built houses. He was a master of many trades. Carl lived a full and wonderful life and has left a legacy that will not be forgotten. He will be forever loved and always missed. Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home from where visiting hours will be held Monday, November 6, from 4-6 pm. A funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will take place at Clifton Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Central Christian Church or Community Worship Centre, Crossroads.
