It is with broken hearts the family of Garth M. MacKinnon, husband of Cathy (Corbett) MacKinnon, announces his unexpected passing which occurred on Saturday, November 25, 2023. Born in Charlottetown, PE on October 2, 1959 he is the son of Keith MacKinnon and Wilma (MacLeod) Drake (Russell). In addition to his parents, and his loving wife of 43 years, Cathy, he is survived by his adoring daughters Brooke Hupé (Phillip) and Brittany MacKinnon; cherished grandchildren Ella, Marcel, Liev, Pascal, Emma, Allee and Austin; brothers Irwin MacKinnon (Donna) and Norman MacKinnon (Khristine); mother-in-law Caryl James; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and grand fur baby Eddie with whom he had a love/hate relationship (loved the snuggles, hated the slobber). He was predeceased by his sister Heather Weatherbie and father-in-law Elwin Corbett. Garth followed his passion and worked as a truck driver for many years, having traveled over 1 million miles. He was also a retired volunteer firefighter with the North River Fire Department where he served for almost 20 years. Anyone who knew Garth knew his love of a good time and being around people – the more the merrier. He enjoyed having a sociable and a good laugh, he often laughed until he cried and loved every minute it. During camping season, after a week on the road, Vacationland Campground was his happy place where he shared many good times with the wonderful friends he and Cathy had made there. He was an avid Patriots fan and loved watching them play and despite not being a huge hockey fan he could be found at the rink cheering on his two favorite players almost every weekend. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. He was always ready to help out, share a joke and/or story and always ready to hit the dance floor. His laugh and deep one-of-a-kind voice will be missed by many, every day. Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home, where visitation will be held on Thursday, November 30 from 4-8 p.m. His funeral service will be held at Belvedere Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, December 1 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Burnside Cemetery.
