Greta Mildred JONES (Hansen) — Montreal, QC

Sadly, Greta Mildred Jones, (Hansen) of Montreal, QC, passed on October 21, 2023, after a brief but final illness that was hiding within her. Her beloved husband of 60 happy years, Paul Jones and their sons, Noel (Lesley) and Derek (Nicky) are all still coming to terms with the fact that a brain tumor can hide so well before taking the wife and mother they all loved so effortlessly. Born, November 28, 1936, in Charlottetown, PE, to new parents, Frank and Eileen Hansen. She was the oldest of five children and will be greatly missed by her sisters, Elaine Godkin, of Stratford, PE, and Dorothy Hansen, of Embrun, ON. Predeceased by her brother, Raymond Hansen and sister, Anna Ings. Her grandchildren, Pierce Jones (Laurel) of Kelowna B.C., Matthew Jones (Nisha) of Ottawa, ON, and Riley Jones of Lennoxville, QC, are all deeply saddened by her unexpected passing but find some solace in knowing that her final illness only showed itself a few days before her passing. Her many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family are simply too numerous to name but all miss her deeply. Having spent her entire childhood a proud islander she gained her teaching credentials at Prince of Wales college, PEI. After graduation she spent three years teaching at Prince St. School, in Charlottetown, where she had also spent a number of years from her own childhood as a student. Still a young woman in her early twenties she yearned for adventure and went to teach in Sweibarten, Germany, for two years before returning to Canada choosing Montreal, Quebec, for her next phase of life. She met her future husband Paul Jones very soon after her start at Royal George High School where they were both teachers. They had a very short courtship before they both knew this was "the one". They married and started their family not long after that. Even after spending 60 years living, learning and loving each other the spark was still there and they were both very much in love with each other and it showed. Her eyes twinkled when she looked at him and he would give her a sparkle rather than a look. Dad always showed how lucky he knew he was to have her by his side for all of those wonderful years. They were both blessed with relatively good health and were able to spend every day except the last three, together, at home, where they both wanted to be. Making and enjoying memories and experiences using simple and readily available ingredients that they had an abundance of, love, consideration and respect. A celebration of life is planned for November 26th near Montreal. The details will be announced later.
