The death occurred peacefully on Tuesday November 28, 2023 of Joan Bernard, formerly of Kensington age 91. Born in Kensington June 5, 1932 Joan was the daughter of the late Arthur and Irene (Champion) Larkin. Wife of the late John L. (Jack) Bernard. Joan was the mother of Beverley (George) Aiken, Stephan Bernard, Cindy (Weldon) Caseley, Shelley (Donald L.) Moase and Susan (Grafton) Cole. Joan was the grandmother of 16 and great grandmother of 23: Chris (Jane) Aiken and their children Rory and Meg; Robyn (Phil) MacDonald; Adrien Bernard and her children Reichen and Quinn; Patty Caseley; Gary (Courtney) Caseley and their son Liam; Mark Caseley (Rhonda Arsenault); Carla (Jeff) MacLellan and their children Cohen, Kate, Levi; Jaime Cole (Darcy MacDonald) and her children Ethan, Mallory and Jacob; Jodie Moase (John Saunders); Sheri Cousins (Ryan MacKay) and her children Emily, Owen and Ben; Conni Moase (Brian Younker) and her children Ash and Gabe; Kristie (Dan) Carkner and their children Violet and Johnny; Jeremy Wall; Chancie (Rickey) Cole and their children Darrison and Makayla; Rylie (Amanda) Cole and their children Ivy and Zoe; Allison Cole (Chris MacPhail) and their son Rowan. Joan is survived by her twin sister Jean Mayhew (Clair, deceased) and sisters Katherine Pettigrew (Ken, deceased); Deanna Bryanton (David, deceased); Sister-in-law Elinor Shaw (Don, deceased). Joan was predeceased by sister Ina (Don) Woodside; brother Arthur Stewart (in infancy); father and Mother-in-law Elmer and Evelyn (Lockhart) Bernard and sister-in-law Beverly Lucy Bernard. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Susanne of Clinton View Lodge and Kayla from Home Care. We also send our gratitude to the dedicated nurses and Doctors and PCH ER and Surgical/restorative Units whom provided compassionate care during Joan’s Time in hospital. A special thank you also goes out to Dr. Phelan for his dedication and compassion that went beyond the call of duty, providing invaluable care to our mother over many, many years. Resting at the Davison Funeral Home Kensington, no visitation or funeral service by personal request. A Private committal service will be held at a later date in Kensington People’s Cemetery.
