On Friday, November 10, 2023, Mary passed peacefully at home surrounded by close family. We will miss her immeasurably, but are so thankful for our time with her. Mary was born in Brantford, ON in 1949. At the age of 10, she moved to Summerside, PEI. This is where she would later meet her husband of 53 years, Barry. No matter where Mary called home, she was an active volunteer in her community. This included roles within the United Church of Canada and Girl Guides of Canada. She enjoyed singing in choirs, playing the piano, and when she moved to Truro in 1984, she took up golfing. She always looked forward to playing with “the girls” at the Truro Golf Club. She was employed by the Nova Scotia Agricultural College for 19 years, and in 2004, when Mary and Barry returned to their beloved Prince Edward Island, she worked with Bell Aliant until she retired in 2009. Back on the Island, she was a member of the Stanhope Golf Club, and sang with the Confederation Centre Choir. For the last 15 years, she enjoyed volunteering for three different Lieutenant Governors at Government House. Mary’s daughters always joked that they won the “mom lottery”, as she truly was the most supportive mother anyone could ask for. She was the loving grandmother to four girls - Hailey, Alexis, Ayla and Zoey. Mary loved spending time with her grandchildren, and the feeling was mutual. The girls adored their Nanny, and always looked forward to freshly-baked goodies, sewing lessons, trips to the beach, and bike rides on the trail. Her patience and love for her daughters and granddaughters was endless. Mary is survived by her husband Barry; daughters Christy (Jason), Morrisville, NC; Heather (Chad), Kentville; and grandchildren Hailey and Alexis Jackson, and Ayla and Zoey Bauld. She is also survived by her sister Louise (Alfred Croken), Long Creek, PEI; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Gertrude and father James McNaughton. Mary’s family would like to express their gratitude to our family doctor Randy MacKinnon and his team, Dr. Robert Adams, The Moncton Hospital, as well as the staff of the QEH Cancer Treatment Centre. Special thanks to Dr. Keith Baglole, Jennifer, and the homecare angels Winter and Catherine. We also appreciate the kindness of the staff of the Belvedere Funeral Home. Summer burial is planned in Hartsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hartsville Presbyterian Church or the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation, Charlottetown.
