Rita GRANT (McGurk) — Cornwall

Rita Grant (McGurk) of Cornwall, in her 77th year, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 24th at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Beloved wife of 52 years to the late Ted Grant and cherished and loving mother of Michelle and son-in-law Troy Leard, Darcy, and daughter-in-law Laura (Hagen) Grant, and Justin Grant. Proud and loving Gramma to Chandler (Jane) and Kennedy Leard; Clara, Myles, and Kate Grant. She is survived by her siblings-in-law: Coreen and Mike Conroy, Parnell and Beverly Grant, Maribeth and Rich Osgood, Elaine Grant; her uncle Gary Gallagher as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families. Rita was born and raised in Ontario and was an only child, but her McGurk cousins Jim, Glen, Pat, Tom, and Maureen were like her siblings; they and their families also survived her. Also missing Rita is her beloved dog, Snoopy. Rita was predeceased by a miscarried child, as well as parents William and Phyllis McGurk, parents-in-law Ernest and Elizabeth Grant, and brother-in-law Kevin Grant. Rita and Ted met in Toronto and not long after getting married in 1970 they decided to move to Prince Edward Island where they raised their three children on the Loyalist Road for 25 years before moving to Cornwall. Rita was a very loving and encouraging wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family. Rita was always grateful for the simple things in life such as a cute dog, a beautiful sunset, the sound of the rain, trying out a new recipe, or meaningful moments with those she loved. Avid travelers, Rita and Ted’s journeys took them to diverse destinations all around the world as well as co-owning various companies closer to home throughout their lives together. Rita and Ted co-founded Mikinduri Children of Hope with Rita quietly lending her support wherever she was needed. Rita devoted much of her time to volunteering for various church endeavours and community organizations. Rita was also a dedicated member of the Catholic Women's League for 48 years. The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff of the Atlantic Baptist Home, Dr. Keith Baglole, Dr. Kris Saunders, the staff of Unit 3, and the Saint Francis of Assisi CWL. Resting at the Belvedere Funeral Home where a private visitation will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi on Wednesday, November 29th, at 1 p.m. with reception and interment to follow in St. Martin of Tours and St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery.
