Janet Marina STEWART (MacKenzie) — Stratford

Janet Marina STEWART (MacKenzie) — Stratford

The death occurred peacefully at Andrews of Stratford for Janet Marina Stewart (nee MacKenzie) of Stratford on Friday December 8, 2023. In the days leading up to her passing she was surrounded by the love of her family with many fond stories relived. Early Friday morning, she held her daughter Joanne’s hand in hers, then softly released it as she joined her husband, Charlie and her parents, Malcolm and Lila in Heaven. Janet was the only child of the late Malcolm and Lila (nee Wotton) MacKenzie. She was born in Crapaud, PEI, on August 15, 1936. She spent her early school years living on Prince Street in Charlottetown. She graduated from The PEI School of Nursing in 1958. Janet worked alongside her husband, Charlie, in raising four children and helping out where needed with the business Chas M. Stewart Electric. Her family was everything to her. She was the most caring, compassionate, and quick-witted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Not only did she raise her children, but she was an active participant in the lives of her grandchildren. Gram was always available to watch the grandchildren when they were sick, drive them to school field trips, feed them all the fruit roll ups they could eat, and get them to school when they missed the bus (which seemed to be quite frequent). Gram always had their back. There are many secrets known only to the grandchildren and Gram. As Gram would say, “there are some secrets the parents don’t need to know. It is just between us”. Janet was a huge lover of all animals especially her beloved German Shepherd dogs (Heidi being the most recent). She was often caught “red handed” feeding the dogs at the dinner table, and when confronted she would exclaim, “well turn your back and don’t watch!”. Left to mourn the passing of their beloved mother are Ian Stewart, Barb MacDonald (Robert MacDonald deceased), Dr. Joanne Stewart (Dr. Richard Holden), and Dr. Janice Stewart (Brian Thompson). She will be dearly missed by her much-loved grandchildren, Lauren Cameron (Jason), Jordan Holden (Kate Fullerton), Charlee Holden, Isabella Thompson, Oliver Thompson; and her great-grandson, Nash Cameron. She leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Shirley Crane Acorn and Joan Stewart; and her two special friends, Ruth and Shelley. Janet was predeceased by her husband Charlie Stewart; her parents, Malcolm and Lila MacKenzie; her mother and father-in-law, Heath and Wihemina (Billy) Stewart; her sister-in-law, Ferne Clarke; her brother-in-law, Atwood Stewart; and son-in-law, Robert MacDonald. Thank you to the wonderful, compassionate staff at Andrews of Stratford. Your kind attention and love for our mother did not go unnoticed. A special thank you to those that spent time with mom in the last two years, you really brightened her days and nights. Resting at Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral home where a private service will take place in the Funeral Home Chapel. No visitation by personal request.
