Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully with family by her side on December 3, 2023, at Saanich Peninsula Extended Care. She was born on February 20, 1935, in Port Morien, Nova Scotia, to Auley and Florence (Spencer) MacKenzie. Jean was a dedicated nurse, having completed her training at the Glace Bay General Hospital School of Nursing and spending most of her career working at Sydney City Hospital. She was a loving wife to her husband, Donald, and together they spent the majority of their married life and raised their family in Sydney, NS, and spent summers at the family cottage in Whycocomagh, NS. Jean was an avid traveler, and in her retirement, she enjoyed travelling across Canada and the U.S. For the last twelve years, Jean lived in Charlottetown, then Victoria, BC, and had the opportunity to live close to her family and grandchildren. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Donald; brothers, Clyde and Angus; and sister, Ethel Fisher. She is survived by sons, Stuart (Marie), Charlottetown, PE, Scott (Nancy), Victoria; grandchildren, Jack, Kevin and Jane; brothers, Robert and Donald and sister, Lois Turner. Our thanks to the dedicated staff of Gorge Road Hospital, Victoria, and Saanich Peninsula Hospital Extended Care for the excellent care they provided Jean as she dealt with the progressive effects of her ALS diagnosis. A special thank you to the congregation members of Cordova Bay United Church for the friendship and fellowship they extended to Jean in welcoming her to the Victoria community. A family service will be held in 2024 and burial will take place in Charlottetown, PE. If desired, donations in Jean’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
