Went Home to be with Jesus peacefully on December 10, 2023 with his family at his side. Beloved husband of Major Wavey Kearley Birt for over 45 years. Loving father of Melita Birt (Dan McKay) and Matthew Birt (Erica Johnson). Cherished Poppy of Celena Birt, Alexa Marchand, Liam Birt, Ava Birt. Son of the late Garth and Alma Birt. Dear brother of the late Al Birt (Terri), late Ivan Birt (Betty), late Gerry Birt (Lynda), Gord Birt (Heather), Edwin Birt (Darlene), Graham Birt. Dear brother-in-law to Fay Wheaton (late Barry), Margaret Thomas (Joe), Jim Kearley (Joan), Wesley Kearley (Ann). Phillip will be missed by his extended family. Phillip was born in Cove Head Road, PEI. Phillip and Wavey were ordained in The Salvation Army in St. John's, Newfoundland in June of 1992. Their ministry took them to Guelph, Ontario in 1992, Essex, Ontario in 1995, Woodstock, Ontario in 1999, then to Toronto in 2006 and finally London, Ontario in 2018. They retired July 1, 2021 back to Essex County. Phillip was an accomplished musician, playing the piano, guitar, trombone, and accordion. He sang with the New Christian Singers on Prince Edward Island in the 1970's. Phillip and Wavey loved to travel in their motorhome. A memorial service will be held at The Salvation Army Corps Woodstock, 769 Juliana Drive, Woodstock on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Majors Patrick and Lisa O'Doherty officiating.
