March 10, 1937 - January 13, 2024. The death of Aurell “Pete” Johnston of Murray River, in his 87th year, occurred peacefully with family by his side in Kings County Memorial Hospital, on January 13, 2024. Lovingly remembered by his wife, Millie Johnston; children, Denise, Sharon, and Scott (Sharon) Johnston; grandchildren, Derek (Hannah), Katie (Dylan), William, Thomas, Amelia, Dylan, and Karissa (Devan) and great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Skyler, Mason, Dominic, Rowan, Sophie and Cuyler. Predeceased by his parents, Helen and Reginald Johnston, sister, Ruby Skene (Alec) and brother, Wayne Johnston. Survived by siblings, Roma MacNeil (Eric, deceased), Pauline Ellis (Joe), Reginald Johnston (Elsie), Edith Zakem (Joe, deceased), Elizabeth Mill (Jerry). Loved and remembered by many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. Aurell was especially proud of his 20 years of military service, where he served as Military Police in many Canadian military bases and overseas in Germany. He then went on to own the Murray River Clover Farm store, followed by several years of service with the Provincial Government. Aurell then enjoyed many healthy years of retirement with an abundance of hobbies including gardening, travelling, a variety of carpentry projects like refinishing furniture and thrifting. The most precious of these, however, was watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren growing up. We, the family wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for the many acts of kindness and particularly to the professional and caring nursing staff and Palliative Care Team of Kings County Hospital. Resting at Southern Kings & Queens Funeral Home, Murray River, where cremation will take place. There is no visitation or funeral service by personal request. A private burial will take place at Murray River Cemetery in the Spring of 2024. If so desired, donations may be made in memory of Aurell to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 8.
