Peacefully at home with her loving family by her side, on January 17, 2024, Elinor "Ollie" Hughes (Paquet) of Stratford, PEI; born to the late St. Clair and Matilda (MacAulay) Paquet on August 9, 1927. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, James J. Hughes; survived by her only daughter and best friend, Frances (Harold) Shepherd; and sons, Ken (Maureen), Eric, David (Wendy), Paul (Cathy) and Jerry. Survived by brother, Alan (Maureen) Paquet and their children Megan, Matthew and Jordan; and brother-in-law, John (Mary) Hughes; sister-in-law, Margaret Hughes. Predeceased by sisters, Edna (Ken) Almond, Grace (Roy Larochelle), Claire (Eric) MacEwen; brothers-in-law, George Hughes and Louis Hughes; sisters-in-law, Maria (Eric) Watts and Evelyn Blanchard. Loving "Gram Across the Road" to Jason (Amy), Robi (Sharie), Kurt (Colleen), Robert (Isabel), Steven (Katie), Patrick (Leah Ann), Amanda, Chad (Erin), Greg (Jen), Natalie (Alister), Christine, Brandon (Caelan). Over 20 great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Ollie loved to play cards, spending her Friday nights at the kitchen table with her family, usually winning a round of gin rummy. Harness horseracing had a special place in Ollie's life. She could be found cheering on her grandchildren either in person or watching races online. She was very proud of each grandchild and great-grandchild and attended many hockey games, curling matches and graduations to name a few. Her family will remember her for her infectious laughter, delicious baking, sense of humor and unconditional love. Resting at the Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home. There will be no visiting hours by request. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 20th from Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Stratford at 10:30 a.m. Interment later in the Parish Cemetery.
