It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Betty Walsh (Gillis) at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside; a beloved wife, mother, Nan, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, on January 22, 2024, at the age of 79. Betty was the loving mother of David Walsh (Debbie Evans), Julie Walsh (Shadi Al Sayed) and Brian Walsh (Lindsay); and grandmother of Ryan, Allison, and Luke; Chloe and Ryah; and Brody and Jessa. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary MacKay (Neil), Linda McClintick and Kay Shaw; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marion Gillis, Marjorie Crawford, Emeric Walsh (Pauline), Marion Myers (Gordon), Earl Walsh (Gloria) and Andy Hennessey; and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her parents, Angus and Mary (MacKinnon) Gillis; parents-in-law, Louis and Catherine Walsh; siblings, Bud Gillis (Myra), Priscilla March (Ray), Joe Gillis and Urban Gillis; brothers and sisters-in-law, Reg McClintick, Barry Shaw, Vernon Walsh (Mary), Stephen Walsh (Shirley), Kathleen MacDonald (Lorne), Bernadette MacQuaid (Ralph) and Rose Hennessey. Betty was the loving wife of Leo Walsh of St Anns, with whom she shared a beautiful journey of love and partnership for 48 years. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and countless cherished memories. She was a devoted mother to David, Julie and Brian, teaching them the values of kindness, hard work, and the importance of family. As “Nan”, Betty was nothing short of extraordinary. Her grandchildren were the apples of her eye. She took immense pride in their accomplishments and was always their biggest cheerleader, never missing a chance to celebrate their milestones. Over the last number of years, Betty courageously coped with a chronic illness with never a complaint. She relied on her deep faith throughout her journey and truly embodied the word strength.
Betty made lasting memories with loved ones; enjoying a good card game, chatting for hours, tearing up the dance floor, and the Gillis boxing day shenanigans. Through the years, she skated with her boys, played ball with her friends, and danced in the living room with her grandkids. Betty's love for her community was profound, and she was always ready to lend a helping hand or share a word of encouragement.
Betty may have left this world, but her spirit and love will forever be a guiding light for her family and those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will always be loved, never forgotten and forever missed.
