Peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2024, the passing of Ethel Mary McCarthy (nee French), age 88, of Sturgeon occurred at the Dr. John M. Gillis Memorial Lodge surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 1, 1935 to Stephen and Mary (nee Steele) French and raised by Pius and Martha Jamieson. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Dan McCarthy. Survived by children, Mary Helen (Danny) Butler, Michelle (Kevin MacKenzie), Jamie (Tracy), Jeannine (Darrell) Davies, and Aaron (Miranda Crane). Dear grandmother to Jeff (Veronica) Butler, Pam (Jonathan) Bastedo, Kyle Kennedy, Katelyn (Patrick) Drake, Maggie (Alex) Murchison, Logan Kennedy, Nolan (Sarah) McCarthy, Ryan (Claire Brown) Davies, Charly Davies, and Samantha and Izabella McCarthy. Adoring great-nana to Denver (Makayla Victor) Bastedo, Kalan and Jack Bastedo, Rilla, Hugh and Arthur Drake, Henry and Ella Murchison, and Alexa Butler. Ethel will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Resting at Ferguson Logan Montague Funeral Home, with visiting on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Wednesday, January 10th in St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Sturgeon at 11 a.m. Interment to take place in the parish cemetery in the spring.
