Peacefully at the Kings County Memorial Hospital, Montague, on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, Joseph “Hugh” McCarville passed away surrounded by his loving family. Born to the late Leo and Cecilia (nee Baker) McCarville on April 6, 1939, he was aged 84 years of Souris and formerly Kensington, PE. He is predeceased by his beloved wife and life partner, Gail (nee Jennings) and was a dear father to Gary, Pat (Angela) and Joe (Linda). Hugh was a caring and loving grandfather to Conor, Mason, Clarke, Evan, Leah, Lucas, and great-grandfather to Maeve. He is survived by his siblings, Gerald (Lucienne), Olive Hughes, Freda, Michael (Betty) and John. In addition, he will be deeply missed by his Goddaughters, Kelli Dingwell and Heidi Baglole; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended members of the Jennings and McCarville families. The family would also like to acknowledge Sandra and Nadine for their special care and support given to Hugh over the past few years. Predeceased by his sisters, Naomi McInnis, Anna Toole and Janet Couture as well as his grandson Matthew. Resting at Dingwell Funeral Home where visiting hours will take place on Sunday, January 7, from 3-6 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Souris, on Monday, January 8, at 11 a.m., with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
