At the Prince County Hospital Summerside on Friday February 16, 2024 of Betty Darlene Mackenzie of Wedgewood Manor and formerly of Baltic aged 66 years. Daughter of the late David and Frances (Davison) MacKenzie, Baltic. Beloved sister of Diana (the late David) Pickering, Baltic, Joan (Kirk) Champion, Darnley, and John MacKenzie, Baltic. Aunt to Christopher (Erin Nicholson) Pickering, Tyler (Shea-Lee) Pickering, Bevin (Mary) Champion, Amos (Katie) Champion, and Katie (Gerrard) Dennuse. Special Great-Aunt to Lyla and Eli Pickering, Alice, Adelyn, and Davison Champion, Madi, Kali, and Ellie Champion, Wavie, Judah and Reuben Dennuse. Survived by Uncles John Davison and Earl MacKenzie, Aunt Sharon Hunter as well as several cousins. Predeceased by Uncles and Aunts, Nancy MacKenzie, Harold and June MacKenzie, Mary and Duncan Picketts, George Hunter, Jean and Bo MacDonald, Keith and Treva Davison, Enid Davison, and cousin Ivan George Davison. During her 28 years working as a receptionist for Dr. Ross Davison, she became close friends with his wife Jane and enjoyed watching their family grow. After Dr. Davison’s retirement, Betty worked for some time at the Medical Centres in Kensington and Summerside. Betty adored cats and worked tirelessly to rescue countless cats and kittens through the years. Her heart was full if there was a cat on her lap. Betty enjoyed gardening and would spend hours working in her gardens and green house, sharing vegetables with many people in the community. She had a talent with growing beautiful flowers and took great pride in her gardens. She was an exceptional artist, and enjoyed painting immensely even into the later stages of her Parkinson's disease. Betty could knit and crochet beautiful sweaters, afghans, socks and mittens. Betty loved to spending time with her nephews and niece and in more recent years loved to spoil her great nephews and nieces with candies and treats. The family sends special thanks to the staff of Wedgewood Manor and Prince County Hospital for the care Betty received. Resting at the Davison Funeral Home Kensington for visitation on Thursday from 10-11:15 a.m. followed by the funeral in the Davison Funeral Home Chapel at 11:30 a.m. which will be available to view online on the funeral home’s website.
