Age 89, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2024 after a long struggle with dementia. Born in East Baltic, PEI in 1934, she was the daughter of the late Mary Margaret and John S Jarvis. She lived in Montreal, Vancouver and Australia and moved to Dieppe ten years ago where she was warmly welcomed by Dean and Paulette Leonard and the Arsenault family. Margaret was a creative and attractive woman with a sense of fashion, adventure and fun. She dressed up as often as she could and would dance at the drop of a hat. She loved her role in the family’s Montreal based waterbed and furniture businesses where she helped design shop spaces and mingled with suppliers and buyers. She was shy at heart and yet very outgoing, so she founded and directed the Elm Tree Theatre Company in PEI where anyone who thought they couldn’t act was invited and encouraged to perform. She always found excuses to go out and to dance so she joined, and soon presided over the One Parent Family Association weekly dances in Montreal. She founded and ran Walkabout Historic Tours Vancouver which even provided her an excuse to dress in historic costumes for work. When she retired, she found a perfect mix of socialising and dancing by joining square dancing groups in Vancouver and Melbourne. Margaret’s heart broke with the passing of her eldest daughter, Bernadette Leonard in 2013, and Margaret will in turn, be immensely missed by her loving children, Yvon Leonard, Dean Leonard and Joanne Leonard, and also by her children’s spouses who were dear to her, Paulette Arsenault, Gavin Randles and Franco Ferrucci. She will be fondly remembered as a fabulous grandmother to Geneviève and Vivianna, Catherine and Noah, Miriam and Marcel. She leaves memories behind with the youngest children in her life Alistair, Penelope and Harrison, Fabien and Maude. Margaret shared a precious bond with her late sister, Flora Campbell. She was also predeceased by her cherished brother, Bernard, brother, Sylvester and her namesake sister, Margaret who died in childhood. Her treasured nieces and nephews will mourn her loss. Her ex-husband, Jean Léonard, will also remember her fondly. Margaret was blessed to be at home at Moncton Residence. Our deepest, most heartfelt thanks go to the crew there, it’s a wonderful world that creates such beautiful, compassionate people. We are truly appreciative that Albert House provided a tranquil place to farewell Margaret, we extend our sincerest thanks to their kind, professional staff. Margaret’s family will honour her memory with a private gathering. Her remains are to be interred in her beloved Prince Edward Island where she always longed to return.
