It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Valerie Margaret Connors (Barlow) Age 73, of Halifax, on February 16, 2024. Valerie was the eldest of eight children born to Lorne and Mildred Barlow of Wellington, Prince Edward Island. She loved and maintained close connections with her siblings and extended family. She was sister to Laverne, Blair (Verna), Eric (Hermine), Sheila (Leslie), Gertrude (Justin) and Carl (Joan) and was an adored aunt to many nieces and nephews. Valerie was a force, strong in her convictions and a fountain of wisdom. She was nurturing, kind and funny. She took pride in baking with her grandchildren, mending their stuffed animals and playing Skipbo. She never wasted a minute of her life, always willing to lend a helping hand. Valerie was an active and generous volunteer to many organizations. She was a devout Christian, worshipping at St. Paul’s United Church in Spryfield. A lifetime member of the UCW and active member of the congregation. Valerie had a wide network of friends spanning decades. Her friends were such a big part of her life, they kept her youthful and her social calendar full. She enjoyed a cup of tea, a glass of wine and never missed the opportunity for an adventure. She was only a phone call away. But most of all, she was our Mother. She loved us unconditionally and cherished quality time together. Mom loved the beach, having her feet in the sand, looking for sea glass and watching the sunset. She appreciated the simple things and enjoyed sharing these experiences with her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband and travel partner of 42 years, Patrick; beloved children, Stacey (Paul) McLaughlin; Ashley (Nathan) Colville and Devon (Lindsay) Connors. Grandchildren Samuel, Benjamin, Theo, Gabriella and Ryland. A celebration of life was held at St. Paul’s United Church, 173 Old Sambro Road, Halifax on February 24, at 2 p.m. There was a reception following the service in the Church Hall. Private family interment at a later date. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com.
