Alice Elaine BURNS (Craswell, Hurry) — Truro

Age 91, Truro, passed away on Sat­ur­day, April 20, 2024, at Shan­nex Cedar­stone En­hanced Care, Truro. Born at home in Clyde Sta­tion, PEI, dur­ing a total solar eclipse in Au­gust 1932, she was the youngest daugh­ter of the late Harry Ray and Kather­ine Mar­jorie “Katie” (Math­e­son) Craswell. Alice was a de­voted mother to her three beloved daugh­ters, Bon­nie Dawn Hurry (Jof­fre DuCharme), Jan­ice Kather­ine Davi­son (Mickey), Tanya Kim Collins (David); step­son, Dr. Peter Burns. She cher­ished her grand­chil­dren, Dr. Kate Collins Fer­az­man (Siavash), Amy Fraser (An­drew), Sam Collins, Kel­son Burns, Sarah Burns, Owen Burns; and great-grand­chil­dren, Logan, Hud­son, Abby and Theo. She is also sur­vived by her dear sis­ter, Hazel MacLeod. Along with her par­ents, she was pre­de­ceased by her beloved hus­band, Rev­erend Car­man George Burns; for­mer hus­band and fa­ther of her three daugh­ters, Henry Hurry; dear sis­ter, Vi­vian Red­ding; in­fant niece, Joy MacLeod. Alice’s ca­reer was ded­i­cated to serv­ing oth­ers at NS School for Girls and NS Youth Train­ing Cen­tre, where she su­per­vised an apart­ment pro­gram for in­tel­lec­tu­ally chal­lenged youth who were dear to her heart. She and her hus­band, Car­man lived in Clifton, New Brunswick, River John and Bermuda, where she sup­ported his min­istry in the United Church of Canada churches. A life-long mem­ber of First United Church, Truro, Alice was also a proud mem­ber of the UCW. She was a tal­ented seam­stress, and she cre­ated many prom and wedding dresses for her daugh­ters. She also vol­un­teered with the Heart and Stroke Foun­da­tion. A Cel­e­bra­tion of Life for Alice will be held in Truro at a later date to be con­firmed. If so de­sired, do­na­tions in her mem­ory to First United Church, Truro, or Berwick United Church Camp (where she and her hus­band, Car­man first met) are wel­comed.
