Ardeth Mary MacKENZIE — Charlottetown

Ardeth Mary MacKENZIE — Charlottetown

The death occurred peacefully at The Atlantic Baptist Home Charlottetown on Thursday May 16, 2024 of Ardeth MacKenzie aged 92. Born in Montague, PEI to parents Margaret “Maggie” (nee Jeffrey) and Daniel MacKenzie.  Predeceased by her siblings, Daniel (Bernice Coyle), Wilfred, Anna (Ed Bernier), Eugene, and John Vincent “Buddy” MacKenzie. Ardeth leaves to mourn cousins from the extended Jeffrey and MacKenzie families including special cousins, Corena Gairns, Heather Jenkins and Corinne Ellsworth. A woman of strong faith, Ardeth spent much time in prayer.  A gentle soul, she led a quiet life.  She was generous with her advice and liked things to be precise and consistent.  As a young woman Ardeth left PEI for Ontario where she trained as a practical nurse at Harlaberry General working with Tuberculosis patients. Ardeth’s deep faith, love of animals and birds and spending time outdoors inspired her poetry.   She enjoyed walking everywhere and would have greatly appreciated exploring the trail system on PEI.   She particularly enjoyed listening to music and radio programmes. She made friends with residents and staff alike and enjoyed helping fellow residents at The Hillsborough Hospital and at The Corrigan Home where she resided before moving to The Atlantic Baptist Home. Thank you to the staff at The Atlantic Baptist Home who were Ardeth’s family the past seven years.  Ardeth was appreciative of the kindnesses extended to her by those workers who dropped in for a quick chat and those who took extra time to attend to her needs. No visiting hours by personal request.  Funeral Mass to be celebrated by Father Andrew MacDonald on Friday, May 24th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Montague. Interment to follow in St Mary’s Cemetery. Donations to St Mary’s Church Cemetery Fund would be appreciated. www.fergusonlogan.com
