Dorothy Stella GILLIS — Charlottetown

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Stella Gillis on February 29th at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown in her 97th year. Dorothy was born in Birch Siding, NB the daughter of the late Nina and William Warren. Being married to an RCAF member, Dorothy and her husband Kenneth lived in numerous places before settling on their beloved Prince Edward Island. Dorothy enjoyed sewing and cooking for her large family. She was a regular attendee at the Charlottetown Driving Park during racing season and also enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends. Dorothy was an avid lawn bowler and curler and you could not get her away from the television if the Blue Jays were playing. Walking on a sandy beach during winters spent in Florida or on Prince Edward Island was something that she thoroughly enjoyed. Dorothy was a long-standing member of The Order of the Eastern Star - Frank H. Tingley #5, Moncton, NB; member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #1 Charlottetown Women’s Auxiliary and the PEI Women’s Institute. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth; brothers Colin, James, William, Robert;  and sisters Lola, Laura, Dolly and Lois. She is survived by her five children Wayne (Valda) Gillis, Truro NS, Cathy (Terry) Hutchinson, Saint John NB, Debbie (Peter) Selig, Kentville NS, Ron (Ruth) Gillis, Hampton NB, Crystal (JP) Simon, Bedford NS. Also survived by 10 grandchildren Mark (Elena), Paul (Heather), David (Trish), Andrew (Sarah), Natalie (Peter), Melissa (Ryan), Kyle (Andrea), Andrea, Timothy (Tiffany) and William. She was blessed with 13 great-grandchildren, Sophie, Peter, Rebecca, Gwen, Cameron, AJ, Evelyn, Ruby, Nathaniel, Charles, Benjamin, Warren and Harrison. A special thank you to Billy and Judy MacKenzie and family for their friendship and support over the years. The family would also like to thank Dr. Nichole Murphy and her health care team and The Mount Continuing Care Community for the care of our mother. Donations may be made to St. John’s Presbyterian Cemetery Fund, Belfast, PEI or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Belvedere Funeral Home in Charlottetown. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 1 at 11 a.m. at Belvedere Funeral Home Chapel, with a reception to follow.
