Everett Charles "Rett" BAKER — Cornwall

With heartfelt sadness we share the peaceful passing at the Provincial Palliative Care on Sunday, May 19, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Toronto, ON, May 16, 1941, survived by his loving wife, Jean (Hansen) Baker; daughters, Wendy, Cheryl (Rob), Tracy (Josh); grandchildren, Anthony Childley (Sam), Matt Chidley (Michelle), Emily Gilise (Colton), Jessica Gilise (Johnathon), Justin Gilise, Jeremy Ludyka (Rachel), Lauren Ludyka (Brandon) and Nick Baker-MacGillivary (Alesa); and great granddaughter, Peyton.  Brother of Patricia Hendry; as well as many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law of Gordon Hansen (Lorna), Carl Hansen (Patsy), Blaire Hansen (Judy), and Lois MacLeod (Eric).  Predeceased by his parents, Everett and Mary Baker; sister, Judy Baker; and his parents-in-law, Trevor and Eliza Hansen.  Rett spent five years in the Royal Canadian Navy before moving to PEI where he joined Maritime Electric. He was the youngest recipient of a Nuffield Scholarship, spending six months in England with his wife and two young daughters. His experience there lead him to spending his career with various unions, PEI Federation of Labour NUPE, CLC (Canadian Labour Congress) in PEI, Nova Scotia and Ontario. He was well respected by all who knew him as he worked towards the betterment of his fellow workers.  Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at the West River United Church, Cornwall on Wednesday, May 22 at 2 p.m. Interment in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation as per personal request. Donations to the Provincial Care Centre would be appreciated.
