We are beyond heartbroken after the passing of our beloved Florence Mary MacKinnon “Flo” at the age of 79. Flo passed away at the ICU Department of Queen Elizabeth Hospital, on the afternoon of May 15, 2024, due to complications from Pancreatic Cancer surgery performed in Halifax Victoria General on March 6, 2024. Flo leaves her grieving son, Carey MacKinnon; her daughter-in-law, Dianne; sisters, Bette (Manual) Garcia and Beverly (Bob) Burling Hughes; grandchildren, Justin, Carly (Joey Carik), Sarah, and Marc; and great-granddaughter, Janie Florence. She is predeceased by her late husband, William (Bill) Mackinnon; and her parents, Mary and Vernon Hughes. Flo’s love for life and people were immeasurable. Her immediate family and closest friends are extremely grateful for the kind words, stories and condolences that are being offered by so many that knew and loved her. Flo’s kind heart, laughing and generous spirit touched all those that met her and subsequently you all became an intricate and important part of Flo’s life. Flo’s final moments with her family at her side were peaceful, spirited and moving, as it was in her life. We are deeply grateful for all those that took Flo into their care during her stay at the hospitals. Your kindness and compassion was sincerely appreciated by Flo and is greatly commendable. We are so thankful to have had you at her side and ours during this most difficult journey. Flo is resting at Belvedere Funeral Home. Flo’s Celebration of Life will be on Thursday, May 23, at 10 a.m. for those wishing to join us. Charitable donations can be made to Craig's Cause Pancreatic Cancer Society. There will be a family burial later in the summer at West Covehead United Church Cemetery. Messages of condolence may be shared on Flo’s Memorial Page at: www.belvederefh.com
