Mary Norma HAMILTON (Gaudette) — Charlottetown

Mary Norma HAMILTON (Gaudette) — Charlottetown

Desmond Tutu said “Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” This is how Norma lived her life. Mom passed away in the early hours of May 26 at the QEH while holding the hand of her loving son, Barry.  Mom was born at home on Feb 11, 1935 in Pleasant View, PE to her parents Ada and Edward Gaudette. Mom is predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward Hamilton; and her granddaughter, Sarah Joelle. Mom is survived by her daughter, Joann Hamilton-Barry, husband Nick; daughter, Patricia Hamilton Warr, husband John; and son, Barry Hamilton, wife, Jackie. Mom will be forever remembered by her grandchildren, Alex, Hope, Charlotte and Jonathan. Mom will also be forever loved and remembered by her siblings: Bernice, Verna, Lorraine, Vernon and Claude.  Mom had a special and enduring connection with her sister-in-law, Evelyn Hamilton with whom she shared countless laughs. Mom’s siblings who have predeceased her are Billy, Wilbert, Edward, Anne, Eva and Ray. The RCMP was an integral part of Mom’s life. She and Dad moved from PE in 1958 and over the years transferred to many locations in NWT, NB, MB, NL and then back home to complete their career and retire in Charlottetown. Mom had great admiration and respect for the Force and was incredibly proud of Dad’s work until he retired as an Inspector in 1987. Mom received the RCMP’s “Second Man” award for her work in various isolated detachments where she prepared meals for people in custody, visiting members and took phone calls from the public if Dad was unavailable. After Dad’s death in 1993, Mom maintained her strong connection with the Force as an active member of the RCMP Veteran’s Association. Hosting family and friends at home on Conamore Drive was a great joy for Mom. Preparing and sharing delicious food for everyone was second nature for her. Children, grandchildren, and guests fondly remember the countless hours by the pool swimming, eating, drinking, and laughing. Mom loved and appreciated the incredibly strong and supportive network of friends with which she was blessed: Eleanor One, Eleanor Two, Sheila & Lloyd, Joyce, Mary & Bill, Martha & John. Special mention to the fantastic group of women with whom Mom went to Florida every year after Dad passed: Eleanor, Betty, Irene and Evelyn. Mom treasured her amazing circle of women friends. Mom’s faith was a constant in her life. She was an active member of St. Pius X Parish for more than 40 years where she volunteered as a Eucharistic minister and helped with the collection. She was also an active member of the CWL. For years, Mom volunteered with Charlottetown Meals on Wheels and was actively assisting with deliveries up to the time of her passing. When people are kind, thoughtful and make a special effort to help, Mom noticed. We, her family, appreciate beyond belief the support we are receiving at this time. We would like to thank everyone who helped after her sudden and brief illness but especially: Dr. Paul Seviour; RN Angela Pierce; Holland College Advanced Paramedic Trainee, Scott; Dr. Nicole Murphy; Dr. Rachel Weagle; Dr. Matt Twiddy; ER nursing staff; and all the Unit 2 nursing staff, especially Cassie, Emma and Alex. Very special mention to the professionalism of Island EMS paramedics who helped transport Mom to the hospital with deft, speed and kindness. Visiting hours at the Belvedere Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday May 28th. A funeral mass will be held on May 29th at 1 p.m. at St Pius X Church, with interment to follow. A reception will occur after the interment in the church basement. Donations in Mom’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated or to the charity of one’s choice.
