Barnes, Eileen Mehaffey 1942-2024 Eileen Mehaffey Barnes passed away peacefully this morning. Born in 1942 to Winfred (Mac) and Elsie MacCausland on Prince Edward Island, Eileen was the eldest of three children, including her two brothers, Owen and Harold. Eileen pursued her passion for nursing in Montreal at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Her commitment to healthcare continued many years later when she attended nurse anesthesia school in North Carolina. Eileen married Leathem Mehaffey in New Orleans and the couple made their home in Florida. They enjoyed many trips to Europe on vacations. Following her anesthesia training, Eileen and Larry settled in Greensboro, NC. A devoted aunt, Eileen was a constant presence in the lives of her niece, Cynthia and nephew Chris, frequently traveling to Maine to celebrate their milestones and special events. Her deep affection for her birthplace, PEI, never faded and she often visited eventually purchasing a summer home there. After Larry's passing, Eileen remained in Greensboro until she met and married Stanley Barnes, a gentle farmer of cotton and peanuts from Murfreesboro, NC. Together they shared many happy years and made countless trips to PEI enjoying the company of family and friends. In her later years Eileen faced the challenges of chronic arthritis with her health gradually declining. Stanley's devoted care along with the support of June Miller in her final two years , provided Eileen with comfort and companionship until her passing. Eileen will be deeply missed by Stan, her friends and family, especially her brother Owen, his wife Nancy and beloved niece and nephew, Cynthia and Chris.
