Irene “Gail” MACLEOD (CARVER) — Long Creek

MacLeod (Carver), Irene "Gail" Passed away on Monday, June 10th, peacefully with her two children and family by her side after a brief stay in the Intensive Care Unit of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Formerly of Parkdale, Gail has been a lifelong resident of Long Creek for 54 years. After graduating from Prince of Wales College, Gail started her 35-year life of service as a Registered Nurse. She graduated from the Prince County Hospital School of Nursing as Valedictorian in 1968. Gail is a graduate of the University of New Brunswick having completed her Bachelor of Nursing Degree in 1986. Gail began her nursing career in Hamilton, ON, but returned to the Island in 1970 to work at the Prince Edward Island Hospital. She was the Nurse Manager of Unit One when the Queen Elizabeth Hospital opened in 1982. She moved to the Nursing Staffing Office until she retired in June of 2005. Gail's selfless and caring demeanor extended well beyond her patients. She was the source of knowledge and wisdom that her family and neighbors could depend upon as both a caregiver and supportive friend. Gail was strong, resilient, and humble. She had remarkable wit and a great sense of humor. Gail is survived by her loving son, Wayne (Indy); and daughter, Rachel; sister, Linda (Havenga); granddaughter, Poppy; and cherished family member, Carol MacAulay. Gail is predeceased by her husband, Garfield MacLeod; her mother, Catherine (Carver); father, Walter (Carver); sister, Elaine (MacPhee); and brother, Wayne (Carver). Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral at Gail's request. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, July 13th, from 1-3 p.m. at the Belvedere Funeral Home Reception Center. Gail's family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the QEH Intensive Care Unit for their empathetic, compassionate, and family-centered care. In lieu of flowers, donations to the PEI Humane Society can be made in Gail's honor.
