Wight, Capt. Cephas Charles "Buddy" Peacefully, with family by his side, the passing of Captain Cephas Charles "Buddy" Wight, age 82 of Montague, devoted and loving partner of 25 years to Karen Schneider, occurred on Monday, July 15, 2024, at the Kings County Memorial Hospital. Born in Lower Montague, October 12, 1941, son of the late Archibald and Helen (Aitken) Wight. Survived by his children, Lorraine, Claude, Krista (Jim) McNee, Pamela, and Andrew (Sheri); sister, Cathy (Derek) Garcin; sister-in-law, Florence and brothers-in-law, Gus Pater and Hugh Hanlon; 14 cherished grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by siblings, Merrill, Alice Hanlon, Isabel (Leslie) Williams, and Debbie Pater. Buddy began his career at sea aboard fishing vessels. At the young age of 14, he left Georgetown for Newfoundland fishing for Griffin Factory Trawlers. For the latter part of his career, he earned his Master Mariner and sailed in the Beaufort Sea with Canmar and Dome Petroleum, where he made many lifetime friends that he held dearly until his last day. Resting at Ferguson-Logan Montague Funeral Home, with visiting hours on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. Graveside service to take place on Monday, July 22, at 3 p.m. at the Lower Montague Cemetery.
