Leard, Ronald Albert Ron passed away peacefully at Andrews of Summerside on July 1st. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Elaine and his son, Steven (Diane) of Edmonton. Loving grandfather to Frances (Jonathan), Alec (Kelsey), Sydney (Marvin); and great-grandfather to Ethan and Bowen. He is survived by his sister, Lorna (Dick) Bugatsch; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and numerous nephews and nieces. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Goldie (Walfield). Ron retired in 1987 having spent the majority of his career working for Marine Atlantic. He enjoyed his retirement years travelling, golfing and curling. For many years he was an active member of Trinity United Church Summerside. One of Ron's highlights in life was being chosen by the Weston Foundation in 1950 as one of 50 young Canadians to travel to the United Kingdom. The tour was an experience he would never forget along with the lifelong friendships made on the journey. Ron was a respected member of the community. He cherished family, his many neighbours and he and Elaine's many friendship groups. The family wishes to thank the care team at Andrews of Summerside who ensured a safe and caring home for Ron. If desired, donations in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Prince County Hospital Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of PEI. The funeral will occur on Monday, July 8 at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Church Summerside with a luncheon to follow. No visiting hours by personal request.
