Margaret Catherine MOSS — Garlands Crossing

Moss, Margaret Catherine It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret Catherine Moss, 88, of Garlands Crossing. Margaret peacefully departed on August 31, 2024, at Victoria General Hospital in Halifax. Margaret was born on September 13, 1935, in Orwell Cove, PE. She spent her early years on the island before moving to Halifax. She was a gifted student, graduating from Queen Elizabeth High School at age 16. Though offered a chance to study French at Sorbonne University in Paris, Margaret chose to pursue her true calling. She enrolled at Dalhousie University in Halifax, played on the Dal women's basketball team, and graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work at age 19. Margaret's career took her to different locations, enriching her with diverse experiences. She worked in Digby County and Africville before moving to the big city of Toronto, ON, for a new opportunity. There, she met her first husband, Mike Halozan. Several years and a set of twin boys later, they returned to Halifax where they completed their family. She spent the remainder of her career working as Director of Social Services at the Halifax County Regional Rehabilitation Centre. Several years after Mike passed away, she met and married Harold Moss. Together, they enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, and caring for each other. In 2006, Margaret bought a summer home on her beloved Prince Edward Island. She and Harold split their time between Dartmouth and Murray Harbour, PE, until they permanently relocated to the island in 2011. In 2020, they returned to Nova Scotia to be closer to family, settling in Garlands Crossing where they spent their twilight years. She will continue to live on in the hearts of her son, David Halozan; daughter, Sonia Blenkhorn (Ian); stepson, Robert Moss (Judy); grandchildren, Tiffany Kisters, Tristan Bruce, Nicole Moss, Danielle Moss, William Read, Callum Read, Eli Read, Ryan Goodman, Tyler Goodman, Natalya Goodman; great-grandson, Liam Kisters; niece, Leanne Griffiths; nephew, Bradly Griffiths; many in-laws, and countless friends. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Vivian Johns "Jack" Griffiths and Margaret "Hazel" Conrad; first husband, Miroslav "Mike" Halozan; stepfather, Ralph Conrad; brother, David Griffiths; stepsister, Greta Conrad; son, Stephen Halozan; second husband, Harold Moss; and a brother in infancy. In accordance with Margaret's wishes, there will be no visitation. Her funeral will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 1 p.m. in Woodlawn United Church, 54 Woodlawn Road in Dartmouth. Reception to follow at the church from 2-4 p.m. Family flowers only, please. Margaret was many things to so many people: mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, mentor, confidant, champion, and so much more. Wherever she went, she found friendship and community. For her, a stranger was just a friend she hadn't met yet. She was happiest when surrounded by those she loved and was so very loved in return. Her infectious laugh and love of life will be profoundly missed. David, Sonia, and family are overwhelmed by the support they've received from their mother's wide circle of friends. She left her mark on so many, a true testament to a life well lived. www.tjtracey.com
