Thompson, Norman Best Of Stratford passed away peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Saturday, October 26th, in his 99th year. Dearly loved husband of Ireta (Stevenson) and loving father of Deborah Hood (Ricky) and Douglas Thompson (Darlene). Cherished Gramps to Adam Hood (Katie Morello), Kathryn Gregory (Mark), and Kirk Thompson. Dear Great-Gramps to Nathan and Cameron Gregory and Harrison and Henry Hood. Norman will be lovingly remembered by his brother-in-law, Rev. Gordon Stevenson (Helen); sisters-in-law, Joan Bernard and Catherine Hurtubise (Reid); as well as many nieces and nephews. Norman was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Lena Thompson; his siblings, Grace MacCallum (Avalah), Max (Doris), Ella Chappell (Clifford), Olive Darrach (George), Albert (Evelyn), Edmund (Elva), and Stanley (Norma); as well as his brothers-in-law, George Bernard and Andre Hurtubise. Norman worked for many years as an agent for the Canadian National Railway in Prince Edward Island and in Sydney, and in later years as a realtor. He believed in service to his community and his church. He was a Veteran of World War II and a proud Legion member. Norman was a founding member of St. Andrews United Church in Vernon, and the Pownal Sports Center. His involvement in amateur hockey included being president of the PEI Minor Hockey Association and a board member of the Canadian Minor Hockey Association. He served as grandmaster of the PEI Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner who became Potentate of Philae Temple, representing PEI and Nova Scotia. Norman was a past President of the Royal Commonwealth Society of PEI and was a member of the Men's Probus Club. He was a faithful member of Trinity United Church. Norman enjoyed gardening, curling, travel and boating at his cottage on the Wheatley River, but most of all, he enjoyed time spent with family and friends. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Belvedere Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating Norman's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 1st at Trinity United Church in Charlottetown. The family will greet relatives and friends at a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Norman's memory may be made to Trinity United Church in Charlottetown or to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Montreal.
