Sterling Arthur COLWILL — Vancouver, BC

COLWILL, Sterling Arthur Passed away peacefully, with family at his side, on October 8, 2024, in Vancouver, BC. Sterling is predeceased by Beatrice, his loving wife of 57 years. He will be dearly missed by his seven children and their spouses, Doreen (Doug), Sheila, Bruce (Laura), Suzanne (Manfred), Myrna (Graham), Elaine (Peter), Marion (Todd); and thirteen grandchildren, Chelsea, Jasper, Rachel, Theresa, Matthew, Michael, Maria, Anna, Sarah, Heather, Katherine, Catriona and Trevor. Sterling is survived by his siblings, Alice, Doreen, Ernie, Blanche, and Carl, and is predeceased by Joyce and Clinton. Born on February 22, 1929, in Northam, PE, Sterling enjoyed a happy childhood on the family farm. He began his career in the elevator industry in Toronto and northern Ontario leading to a transfer to Vancouver with his young family. He was actively involved in the Point Grey Homeowners Association and was instrumental in maintaining the Jericho Beach lands as a park instead of a highway to UBC. He honed his skills as a contractor and operated his own company, working diligently on building and expanding people's homes. In later years, he returned to the elevator business before his retirement. Sterling was a deeply faith-filled man and spent over fifty years being engaged with and assisting the St. Augustine's Parish community. He was also actively involved with the Knights of Columbus and the Archdiocesan Catholic Charities. An exceptionally generous man, Sterling lovingly gave his time and support to all. He devotedly cared for his family, the family home and, in later years, as a caregiver to his wife. With warmth and joy, he welcomed many into the family home and enjoyed visits over a cup of tea or a drink of scotch. Widely loved and respected, Sterling impacted many lives with his kindness and gentle spirit. To the end, he maintained his loving nature, his sense of humour and a twinkle in his eye. He will be deeply missed by his family who are eternally grateful for his unwavering love, support and dedication. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all of those who cared for and provided such wonderful support to Sterling in his final years. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 10 a.m., at St. Augustine's Church, 2028 W. 7th Ave, Vancouver, BC V6J 1T4. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in memory of Sterling to Chalice Canada (chalice.ca) or a charity of your choice. Rest in peace, Dad, and delight in the reunion with your beloved Bea. Thank you for everything.
